New year, new color! Have you heard of that annual tradition from the folks at Pantone? Pantone chooses a color of the year, which is meant to be a symbolic choice that is representative of what is happening in global culture. Their colors help to marry a variety of industries, from designers, manufacturers, retailers, and you: the consumer. Pantone provides a communication across fashion, architecture, photography, and more—all using color.
This year Pantone unleashed a color for 2018 that communicates imagination, creativity, exploration, and the cosmos. Enter: Ultra Violet. According to Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, Ultra Violet is “a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.” The Pantone website mentions several musical icons including Jimi Hendrix and Prince, who brought shades of the color to western pop culture as they expressed their individualistic fashion. Pantone says Ultra Violet is a symbol of uniqueness, non-conformity, and experimentation.
We at Curtain Call Creations are finding ourselves incredibly inspired by the color of the year! Read on to hear a few suggestions of how to incorporate this beautiful color into your own home.
If you find yourself wanting to bring only a little Ultra Violet to your life: try refreshing your accessories. Right now, the color preferences of our clients are leaning towards the neutrals: grays, tans, whites, taupe…This lends itself to a myriad of design options when it comes to bringing in a little color to the room. Pillows, pieces of art, throws and vases will provide that pop of color against the neutrals you already have in your home. The best part? It won’t break the bank.
Perhaps you appreciate a less subtle style of décor, and want to let more than a little Ultra Violet in—go ahead and paint an accent wall in that color! It would certainly make a rich, bold addition to a room. Bring the design full-circle by incorporating some accessories in a similar color palette.
Why not change out your dining chair fabric this year? Or perhaps you were thinking of painting that new armoire for your daughter’s room? Try out some Ultra Violet! It is such a luscious color that all who will use the furniture will truly feel like royalty.
Maybe you’d prefer to keep your home in a neutral color scheme, and the idea of incorporating any Ultra Violet in your rooms makes you shiver. Who says you can’t wear it? Thanks to Pantone, the fashion industry will provide you with plenty of opportunities to wear Ultra Violet in winter, spring, summer and fall this year. Give it a try!
