Now that you’ve had your family and friends over for the Thanksgiving holiday, you’re probably noticing there are a few areas in your kitchen that could be given some attention. Perhaps your kitchen is outdated in general, or maybe it’s just a little out of trend. Either way, there are a few things you can easily do that will make a large impact on the overall look of your kitchen. Read on to hear five ways you can update your own kitchen for the New Year without breaking the bank!
New Tile for Backsplash
One of the easiest “big” renovations you can do is get your backsplash re-tiled in a more modern selection. Choose something classic instead of something “new” and trendy—it will stand the test of time for much longer. For smaller or darker kitchens, consider using mirror or mirrored tiles. The reflective surfaces help to bring in light and make the space seem much larger.
Swap Out Hardware & Fixtures
Talk about a change that will be noticed immediately: swapping out your old hardware and fixtures for new choices is like a face lift for your kitchen. You’ll find yourself noticing that just like your friend Jane who came back from vacation looking ten years younger, your kitchen also looks amazing without much effort, but you can’t quite put your finger on why.
Update Countertop Accessories
Clean off what you currently have on your countertop, and create a new designer space to feast your eyes on. Find homes for the items that are currently creating a cluttered look. Pick up a couple of marbled jars for spatula holders, some quirky salt & pepper shakers, and plant a few herbs to grow on your countertop. You’ll be surprised at how much you like your countertop looking like a display at Crate & Barrel.
Add a Runner and/or a Rug
So often in the morning, I come straight from my bedroom to the kitchen to get the coffee brewing, and most of the time I’m not wearing socks. Make that transition to daylight a little easier by adding some runners and/or rugs to your kitchen. It immediately gives the space a pop of color, style, and warmth.
Invest in New Furniture
Perhaps you’re like me, and much of the furniture in your kitchen is a hand-me-down or has been a part of your life for a long time. Now is the perfect time to find a few new furniture pieces to make your kitchen more modern and comfortable. Maybe get some cushioned barstools that have a back, instead of those old wooden ones you’ve had since 1995. Or perhaps your kitchen chairs haven’t ever matched with your table; now is the time to fix that problem. It is an easy renovation that creates a large visual impact.
