Essential Oils

I love… love… love… essentials oils and use them throughout my home and in a variety of ways. I have beautiful diffusers in several rooms that are pretty to look at, and make my entire home smell wonderful.

Today, the weather is cold and gloomy and I found it hard to find my motivation “mojo.” I’m all about sunshine and happy days, so today; I’m using Orange and Lemon oils mixed together, to wake up my senses. Citrus oils are great scents to invigorate the mind. And when I need some down time, I like to use a drop of Lavender on my pillow case; it’s such a soothing scent. I also have a homemade blend of Lavender and Peppermint Oils mixed with organic grapeseed oil in a roll on, which I use to reduce stress and stave of tension headaches when applied to my wrist or temples.

In our home, we try to use the most natural and organic products as possible from foods to cleaning supplies. I STRONGLY recommend using organic essential oils because what you release into the air, you are breathing into your lungs; and what you touch is absorbed into your skin. They do cost more, but for me the cost is worth the peace of mind. Every person is different and only be experimenting will you the brand and scents you will enjoy the most. I’ve learned a lot by attending local seminars featuring essential oils and from one on ones with various distributors. Essential Oil parties with family and friends are another great way to get introduced into these wonderfully versatile oils.

Here is a recipe I use to create a Natural Homemade Freshener:

  • 2 oz. glass spray bottle
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • Distilled water (heated)
  • 10 drops of organic essential oil (they can be mixed)

Warm the water in the microwave so it is hot, but not boiling. Add the baking soda to the water spray bottle, and fill with the warm distilled water. Add 10 drops of essential oils (you can use one scent or mix to create your own custom scent) and shake to combine all ingredients. Your spray is now ready to Freshen Your Home. Enjoy!
